“A long-time friend” of Robinson Cano told John Harper of the New York Daily News that Cano is unhappy in Seattle and would “love to somehow find his way back to New York.”
Cano signed a 10-year, $240 million free agent contract with the Mariners a couple winters ago and has posted relatively disappointing OPS marks of .836 and .779 in his first two seasons. Former major leaguer Andy Van Slyke recently criticized the 33-year-old second baseman of “loafing” and getting coaches and executives fired. This has quickly turned into a public relations mess, but Cano is doubtful to be traded this winter unless an opposing team can come up with something really creative. He is still owed a ridiculous amount of money ($192 million), and the M’s want to compete in 2016.
